The US Academic Bee and Bowl is pleased to announce that in the 2018-2019 academic year it will once again be hosting the National Qualifying Exam sites for the Middle School and Elementary Divisions of the US Geography Olympiad.
The US Geography Olympiad is an exam-based competition focusing on all aspects of world geography.

The 2019 US Geography Olympiad US National Championships for Middle School and Elementary Divisions will be held most likely on the weekend of June 6-10, 2019 in a location still to be determined.

For the 2018-2019 academic year, USGO offers six age divisions:
Varsity (for any student born on or before June 30, 2003 for the 2018-2019 academic year)
Junior Varsity (for any student born on or after July 1, 2003 for the 2018-2019 academic year – note! this division is open to anyone in the four younger divisions too – they can compete in whichever of those 4 divisions they are eligible for as well as the JV Division)
8th Grade (for all students in 8th grade, or for homeschooled students born between October 1, 2004 and September 30, 2005 for the 2018-2019 academic year if they lack a formal grade designation)
7th Grade (for all students in 7th grade, or for homeschooled students born between October 1, 2005 and September 30, 2006 for the 2018-2019 academic year if they lack a formal grade designation)
6th Grade (for all students in 6th grade, or for homeschooled students born between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007 for the 2018-2019 academic year if they lack a formal grade designation)
Elementary School (for all students in 5th grade or lower, or for homeschooled students born on or after October 1, 2007 for the 2018-2019 academic year if they lack a formal grade designation)

Details on the Junior Varsity Division can be found by exploring the USGO website at www.geographyolympiad.com. Once students reach Varsity age, they can compete in the USGO for one of the four spots on Team USA which attends the International Geography Olympiad, known as iGeo, each year.

At each US Academic Bee and Bowl Regional tournament site, the D Set version of the US Geography Olympiad & International Geography Bee National Qualifying Exam (the same exam and qualification procedures are used for both competitions) will be offered.

At each US Academic Bee Regional tournament site which is held in conjunction with the Regional Finals of the National History Bee, the E Set version of the US Geography Olympiad & International Geography Bee National Qualifying Exam will be offered and at each US Academic Bee held in conjunction with the Regional Finals of the National Science Bee, the F Set version of the NQE will be offered. These exams are offered free of charge to anyone who is competing there in the History Bee or Science Bee. Students competing in full day tournaments offering both can thus take both versions of the NQE.
